Improve your organizational efficiency and gain experience in data mining, statistical analysis, data engineering, data warehousing, business intelligence and strategy, data visualization and presentation, and operations-related data analytics.

Note: To allow for some flexibility and exploration of emerging topics in business, academic departments may choose to run special topics courses in place of the below standard offerings for this COGS. The below courses for this COGS are typically offered each year, but might be distributed across semesters, so students should expect that it will take more than one semester to complete all coursework. Typically, one course for this COGS is offered each Fall and Spring semester, with the potential for a Summer semester course offering.

MIS 02538 - Database Design (3 credits)

  • This course explores the fundamentals of designing a database. It emphasizes the relational model; however, the course also explores the hierarchical and network models. Additionally, the course covers such topics as data insertion, modification, and extraction using SQL. CASE tools and database management tools will be employed.
MIS 02540 - Data Warehousing & Business Intelligence

MIS 02540 - Data Warehousing & Business Intelligence (3 credits)

  • This course covers the concepts, principles, and tools of data warehousing technology as a component and function of Business Intelligence. It explores how to solve business problems by using an organization’s data to gain new insights into its operations. Additionally, it introduces the approaches, roles, and responsibilities associated with the design and implementation of a data warehouse. This course leverages a portfolio of SQL Server tools for hands-on experience in implementing a solution through assignments, lab exercises, and projects.

CS 02505 - Data Mining I (3 credits)

  • This is a first graduate level course in Data Mining, which is designed to teach students the key steps in data mining, along with the primary algorithms related to data acquisition, cleansing, and supervised and unsupervised learning.
CS 02625 - Data Quality / Web Text Mining

CS 02625 - Data Quality / Web Text Mining (3 credits)

  • This course studies data quality problems and solutions in the context of text and web mining, which is the exploration of vast amounts of digitized text for use in knowledge discovery or more particularly drug discovery in the biomedical field.
DA 02510 - Visual Analytics

DA 02510 - Visual Analytics (3 credits)

  • This is a graduate level course that investigates visual analytics tools and techniques used to synthesize information and derive insight from massive, dynamic, ambiguous, and often conflicting data, and to communicate the findings effectively for decision-making. Extensive use of case studies based on real-world events will be used to illustrate course concepts. Students will be required to present recent conference or journal papers from the visual analytics literature and to apply visual analytics techniques toward a focused research problem in a real-world application or a domain of interest.

Admissions Requirements

The following is a list of items required to begin the application process for a Certificate of Graduate Study in Data Analytics. Further action or materials may be required. Upon receipt of the materials below, a representative from the Rowan Global Admissions Processing Office will contact you with confirmation or to indicate any missing items.

  • Completed Rowan Global Application Form
  • $65 (U.S.) nonrefundable application fee
  • Bachelor's degree (or its equivalent) from an accredited institution of higher learning
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended (regardless of number of credits earned)
  • Current professional resume
  • Typewritten statement of professional objectives
    • Provide reasons for pursuing the program. Describe how you might use this program to advance your career (educational goals beyond the master's level, if applicable, are also relevant).
  • Minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale)
