MBA/MS Finance
MBA/MS Finance
MBA/MSF Degree Overview
The MBA/MS in Finance Accelerated Pathway is intended for students who want to pursue both the Master of Business Administration and Master of Science in Finance concurrently or successively. The MBA typically requires 36 credits (4 x 1.5-credit courses, 10 x 3-credit courses) while the MS in Finance requires 30 credits (10 x 3-credit courses). The MBA/MSF accelerated pathway allows the sharing of up to 5 courses to satisfy the requirements of both degrees. The MBA/MSF pathway requires 51 credits (4 x 1.5-credit courses, 15 x 3-credit courses)* in total and can be completed at the student’s desired pace through various course formats.
Alumni that have completed an MBA in Finance or MS Finance at Rowan University who are interested in a potential “accelerated pathway” to pursue an additional graduate business degree may transfer up to 15 credits (5 x 3-credit courses) from their first graduate business degree into the second. For those that have completed an advanced graduate business degree at another AACSB-accredited business school, they may transfer up to 9 credits (3 x 3-credit courses) from their first graduate business degree into the second.
Candidate Logistics
- Ultimately, candidates must formally apply to and be accepted by both programs:
- Master of Business Administration (MBA) and
- Master of Science in Finance (MSF) programs at Rowan University
- However, students should apply to their primary program of choice first, and then apply to the second program in a subsequent semester (e.g., in their second year of studies in the first program).
- Typically, one degree is completed prior to beginning coursework within the other degree, but this is not required. Your Academic Advisor will guide you in course planning to meet your goals.
- Students must complete all Foundation Course (undergraduate) credits prior to beginning MBA or MSF graduate-level work that requires these Foundations as pre-requisites; see the Graduate Business Program Foundation Fact Sheet for options on satisfying these requirements.
Flexible Schedule and Delivery
- MBA/MSF Accelerated Pathway students can choose from course format options including:
- On main campus in Glassboro (Fall and Spring)
- Online (Fall, Spring, and Summer)
- Formats and courses offered will vary by year and semester, so students will work with the Office of Graduate Business Programs to select an optimal schedule based on preferences and availability.
Streamlined Application Process
- If you have not yet started either the MBA or MSF:
- Apply to the MBA or MSF (whichever is the primary program of interest) using the Rowan Global Application Form
- To officially add the secondary program of interest to your student record, please follow one of the below two options:
- Option 1: Upon admission to the primary program, email the Graduate Business Programs Academic Advisor at GraduateBusinessStudies@rowan.edu to determine the best timing and process to add the second program to your records.
- Option 2: In the semester following your admission to the primary program, or in the future, submit an application for the secondary program using the Rowan Global Application Form.
- Waived application components for second program: Application, transcripts, and letters of recommendation. Depending upon primary program and timing, it is possible to also waive the statement of purpose for the second program application.
- Email Tendai Vengesa, our Admissions Counselor for assistance, as many application materials can be shared between both applications.

Pre-MBA/MSF Foundational Business Knowledge*
Pre-MBA/MSF Foundational Business Knowledge*
In order to ensure all students are equipped with key baseline and foundational business knowledge (typically undergraduate level work) for graduate-level coursework in business, Rowan requires all students to satisfy a set of Foundation requirements in the following content areas:
- Calculus
- Statistics
- Accounting (Financial and Cost)
- Economics (Micro & Macro)
- Marketing
- Finance
- Operations Management
Typically, students with an undergraduate degree in business will have satisfied many of these course requirements. Students can begin in the MBA program prior to satisfying all Foundation requirements. However, these requirements must be satisfied early in the program to maintain forward momentum towards degree completion.
There are many ways that students can satisfy Foundation requirements: affordable self-paced online modules, non-credit tests, equivalent courses from their undergraduate studies, online or face to face courses at your local community college or 4-year institution, and of course online or face to face at Rowan University. See the Foundation Fact Sheet for details on requirements plus options to consider so that your pursuit matches your learning style, timeline, and budget.

Are You Ready to Enroll in an Accelerated Pathway Program?
Kristin Carlson originally enrolled for her MBA with a Finance Concentration, but she found a new option when she decided to complete the MBA/MSF Accelerated Pathway program. Rowan University’s Rohrer College of Business offers an MBA/MSF Accelerated Pathway program that grants two graduate degrees in less time at a lower cost. This pathway appealed to Kristin Carlson, whose time is limited with raising and homeschooling four children. And having experience from both sets of curriculum will also place her closer to her own long-term career goals of landing a corporate finance role and owning her own business one day.
