M.S. in Engineering & Master of Business Administration (MBA)
A collaborative education experience with Rowan University’s Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering and the Rohrer College of Business that teaches those with technical engineering backgrounds the necessary skill sets to be successful in leadership or management roles. These skill sets include accounting, project management, quality control, safety and many more to help create a better, more sustainable future through innovative practices and technical skills.
MBA/MS in Engineering Degree Overview
- Learn to utilize technological factors prioritized in business environments, project accounting, and quality control to complement & assist in leading execution across projects, programs, functional units, organizations, industries, and markets.
- Draw on analytical thinking, engineering best practices, and data analysis from research to examine issues from strategic business perspectives for innovative takes on projects.
- Build a focus on people/team development, organizational strategies, management and leadership skills to grow from being a technical expert to a leader making informed business decisions.
- Manage, motivate, and lead—engineering teams, community members, clients, or staff to create and complete projects for the betterment of society.
Program Benefits
- Rowan M.S. Engineering students in good standing (minimum 3.0 GPA with at least two semesters of coursework completed) are guaranteed acceptance into the Rohrer College of Business MBA Program.
- Typically, M.S. Engineering students will begin MBA coursework following completion of the M.S. in Engineering program.
- Rohrer College of Business provides Rowan M.S. Engineering students the opportunity to complete their MBA in under a year allowing completion of both degrees in or under four years.
- The Rohrer College of Business accepts up to nine graduate elective credits into the MBA Program.
- Leaving only 11 graduate courses or the equivalent of 27 graduate credits to complete the MBA.
- Complement quantitative, qualitative and problem-solving skills learned in the M.S. Engineering curriculum with the strategic business knowledge to become a leading innovator who positively shapes our world with safe and ethical business/engineering practices.
- Assume leadership positions within for-profit and not-for-profit organizations (e.g. executive/management positions within chemical, civil, environmental, electrical, or mechanical engineering companies, software design companies, aerospace engineering companies, governmental organizations, professional societies, consulting firms or your own engineering business).
Flexible Schedule and Delivery
- MBA/M.S. Engineering students can choose from course format options including:
- On main campus in Glassboro (Fall and Spring)
- Online (Fall, Spring, and Summer)
- Formats and courses offered will vary by year and semester, so students will work with the Office of Graduate Programs in Business to select an optimal schedule based on preferences and availability.
- Courses will be available for registration in Banner and many options for focuses/electives will be available for students interested.
Candidate Logistics
- Candidates must apply separately to the applicable M.S. Engineering program in the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering and to the Rowan MBA program.
- Foundation requirements depend on prior academic coursework. Students may begin MBA coursework with outstanding Foundation requirements, but should complete them early enough to satisfy course prerequisites and maintain progress. Review the Graduate Business Foundation Requirements for current requirements, completion options, and planning guidance.
- M.S. Engineering/MBA students can complete both degrees in four years or less.
- The time between a student’s first MBA course and final MBA course may not exceed six years.
Streamlined MBA Application Process
- Apply to the MBA using the Rowan Application, once accepted into the M.S. in Engineering program.
- Waived: undergraduate transcripts, GRE/GMAT scores, and letters of recommendation
- Required: Current professional resume, Statement of Professional Objectives
- Once you’ve submitted all required components of your MBA application, please send an email to GraduateBusinessStudies@rowan.edu including your full name, phone number, student ID, and a statement that you would like to be considered for the expedited review process for the MBA/M.S. Engineering Program.

The Rohrer MBA also requires 6 elective courses (18 credits) however, MBA/MSE students are eligible to transfer 9 credits from their M.S. Engineering curriculum into the MBA to satisfy 9 credits of MBA elective requirements with approval by the Office of Graduate Programs in Business. MBA/MSE students will then complete the remaining 3 elective courses (9 credits) as part of an MBA concentration or a general variety of MBA electives.
** Most MBA courses are 3 S.H./credits each, but the MBA core curriculum includes four 1.5 credit courses. Traditional MBA students would also complete 6 Elective or Concentration Courses (18 S.H./credits), but the MBA/MSE candidate may select three courses from the MS Engineering curriculum for the Office of Graduate Programs in Business to consider and approve to satisfy 9 S.H./credits of the MBA Elective Requirements. MBA/MSE candidates would then complete three general or concentration electives (9 S.H./credits) to complete the MBA Elective Requirements.
