Biography

Dr. Tony Lin bridges diverse fields—artificial intelligence (AI), accounting, sustainability, and engineering—to advance business education and research. With a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Drexel University, specializing in Accounting, and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a Bioengineering emphasis from the University of California, San Diego, Tony applies his broad expertise to explore how technology is transforming traditional business processes. His background in bioengineering gives him a strong foundation in analytical thinking and problem-solving, which he leverages to integrate AI into business applications.

In Fall 2024, Tony was honored as a winner of the NJCPA Ovation Award for Exceptional Educator, a prestigious recognition highlighting his exemplary contributions to teaching and advancing the accounting profession in New Jersey. This award reflects his dedication to innovative teaching and university service.

Tony’s industry experience includes three years as a global market coordinator at Citigroup in Taipei, where he led the Taiwan Investor Conference from 2008 to 2011. This professional background provides valuable real-world insight that enhances his academic work.

As a teacher, Dr. Lin focuses on innovation and analytics in accounting, covering topics such as AI in accounting, accounting information systems, financial and managerial accounting, and tax strategies. His courses are designed to foster critical thinking and help students understand how technology impacts the language of business. Tony is passionate about preparing students for a rapidly changing world and equipping them with the skills they need to succeed in a data-driven economy.

Tony is a recognized scholar in AI and accounting, having presented his research at numerous national and international conferences. In 2024 alone, he delivered six papers at four major international conferences, including the Journal of International Accounting Research Conference. He was invited to present on AI’s transformative role in accounting at Rutgers University-Newark, home to the U.S.'s top-ranked AIS program, and at National Cheng Kung University, one of Taiwan’s leading institutions. These prestigious invitations highlight the global relevance of his work and further elevate Rowan University’s standing in the global accounting research community. He was also a panelist on AI in tax education at the 2024 ATA Midyear Meeting.

Beyond his teaching and research, Tony is deeply involved in university service and committed to supporting the academic community. He serves on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), ensuring ethical research practices. He mentors students in the Martinson Summer Scholar Program, guiding them through AI-driven projects that blend academic research with real-world applications. Tony has also contributed as a judge for the IDEA Challenge and served on many committees at different levels at the University, where he has been an engaged member of the Rohrer College of Business.

Dr. Lin is actively pursuing funding for innovative research, including a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant proposal aimed at enhancing learning through technology.
